David Wine

My name is David Wine. I live in Phoenix, Arizona with my remarkable wife Jennifer, two awesome dogs and one super-fluffy cat.

My first marriage rewarded me with two brag-worthy sons. Jamie is a marine biologist living in Seattle and Zac lives in Boston teaching people how to answer the phone (tough job but somebody has to do it). I graduated from Arizona State University in 1983 with a B.S. in Accounting and have worked in the fields of finance and accounting for more than twenty five years. Which leads to my first public announcement: I am not a writer (but I am willing to learn!) The experiences I describe in my first book A Forever Place really did happen to me. The book is the culmination of many hours of my feeble attempts to write – plus lots and lots of input from professionals Donna Nichols, Victoria Barna, Suzy Jimerson-Overholt, CoraLyn Hughes who helped me improve this work significantly.

I am a CPA and I currently work for a global consulting company. I also have a real estate license which, at the moment, makes me grateful for the CPA thing.

I plan to write about spiritual concepts in my blogs and it may be easier for you to follow my mental wanderings if you know a bit of my history. I grew up in a suburb of Denver and went to a small, private church school for 12 years. My parents raised me Seventh-Day Adventist but I chose to leave that religion when I was around twenty three. I still believe some of the basics (don’t kill people, respect your parents) but now I think Real Truth is much larger than some of those other beliefs (Earth was created in six literal days). For now, I believe one of the highest doctrines is that of personal choice—your choice for you and my choice for me.

I am an avid learner. One of my greatest joys is hands-on-learning. When I was a teenager, Dad taught me how to build the bottom part of a house – the foundation. When I was younger, Mom gave me spankings and time-outs when I disassembled a variety of household necessities – the clock, the blender, the toaster, the record player (if you’re under 20, imagine a record player is like an ancient type of CD player) and many, many other things. Poor mom! More recently I have added these to my list of “I Learned That”:

How to blog (still learning)

Prospecting for Placer Gold in the Desert

Basics of Buddhism

Internal Revenue Code Section 722—Tax Free Transfers to a Partnership.

The first three were much more fun than the last!

One of the purposes for this website is to challenge your beliefs and to engage your passion for those beliefs. I hope you will keep an open-mind and I invite you to discuss your thoughts me. I read all emails and blog comments, but respond only when I have time, and only if your comments are intelligent and engaging. To increase your chances of getting a response, no SCREAMING, no blaming or finger-pointing, be intelligent and don’t rely on “conventional wisdom” to support your views.

Honestly though, the primary reason I created this website was to encourage you to buy my book A Forever Place.

Most of all, let’s have fun and see how many new things we can learn.
